Creating the perfect balance between form and function on a Website

In creating an excellent website, their must be the right balance between form and function. Too much focus on one or the other can result in an unsuccessful web design. If you look at our website, you can see that its both aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate, which allows you to find the information that you are looking for easily and quickly.

Form

Websites should always have a well-designed visual style, with fantastic photos, large videos and parallax scrolling - but the purpose of the website must be kept in mind, it is there to spread awareness, or to sell products and services.

A visually impressive website grabs user attention, but if your users can’t find or access information they’re looking for,  you’ll lose that user quickly.

Function

In keeping this in mind, the navigation of your site must be well thought out and designed, making it easy to use and clear to navigate. You may design the best functional site ever created but it the website looks basic, boring and ugly, the user won’t hang around long on your site.

The Balance

It is important to stay competitive with other businesses, you need to catch the users attention visually to draw the user in. However, the functionality of your website is what will make your user stay. If you get this balance correct,  you’ll achieve a site that has great user experience and encourages repeat visitation.

It is tempting to put more focus on the visual assets of a website, but just remember the the key purpose of the website and what your users goal is when on your website. It is important to to understand the navigation pathway around you website and to allow for your users to find the information they are looking for easily, quickly and with intrigue.
